Why can't you drink alcohol when you're pregnant?
Fetal alcohol syndrome is a condition in a child because the fetus was exposed to alcohol during the pregnancy. It causes brain damage and growth problems. Any kind of problems or damages are not reversible, and they can change from one child to another.
People might think that if the pregnant drinks a little bit it's not bad, but there's always a risk of having the fetal alcohol syndrome even if it's not that much. If you suspect your child suffers of this, talk to your doctor to reduce the learning problems.
Symptoms
The severity of the symptoms varies. This symptoms can be:
- Physical defects. Distinctive facial features, deformities, slow physical growth, vision difficulties, hearing problems, small head and brain, heart defects.
- Brain and central nervous system. Poor coordination, intellectual disabilities, poor memory, trouble with attention and processing information, difficulty identifying consequences of their acts, hyperactivity, fast mood changes.
- Social and behaviour issues. Difficulty in school, trouble getting along with others, troubles with impulse control, poor concept of time, difficulty planning toward a goal.
